Australia is the Lucky Country, the home of Bruce and Sheila, the land plentified with Vegemite, many a flip flop and perhaps most importantly – Emu Australia boots!
Forget everything you know about kangaroos, koalas and shark infested surf – right now Australia is giving the world only one thing to talk about – Emu Australia boots.
To rejoice in this most stylish of Australian products let us take a moment to reflect on the land Down Under. In doing so I could perhaps start by basking in the glory of the names Bruce and Sheila. I could start by burning food outside, but it’s too cold. I might even be tempted to start by throwing a boomerang but that plan might back fire. So maybe I’ll begin (as I’m going for a footwear theme) by talking about footwear.
Normally our antipodean cousins aren’t all that good when it comes to footwear. Their idea of sufficient housing for a pair of feet is flip flops – or ‘thongs’ as they’d have us say…
Antipodean man is famed for wearing leather ‘thongs’ with a pair of white sports socks that he pulls up to his knees – making him the world’s lowliest authority on foot related fashion, but he doesn’t care. Being Australian, Bruce and indeed Sheila can be forgiven for their left footed fashion sense. Let’s face it – they will only ever need a pair of flip flops for the beach and a pair of boots for going ‘out back’ to poke dangerous animals with sticks.
Anything in between is pretence. No Australian has ever needed smart shoes. They don’t go well with a mullet or a Ute. What’s more, footwear goes against the antipodean dream. Where the American dream is to get rich, Australians want to walk around bare foot or if they really really have to – if they’re going to a wedding for example – wear ‘thongs’.
Nothing that is uncomfortable or difficult to slip on will do.
But Australia, a country that it must be mentioned has electricity and running water, has now done something that amazes us Brits – not least because something so woolly seems at first sight fairly inappropriate for the land most associated with sunshine in the world.
What, you might ask, does Australia need less than yet more arid, parched, uninhabitable land and coats for kangaroos than woolly boots that would equip you for a winter in the Canadian arctic?
Emu Australia boots are wholly woolly, wholly cosy and wholly Aussie, but it does seem a little odd (at first sight) that they should originate from Australia (warm, sunny, outdoors).
But it is a mistake to assume Australia is only hot. The coldest temperature ever recorded in the country is as impressive as the hottest (-23°C and 50°C respectively) and whilst it may not immediately occur to you as a reason to visit, there are ski areas in such aptly named places as the ‘Snowy Mountains’.
Made from sheepskin Emu boots aren’t only designed to warm you up when it’s too cold. Sheepskin is great at keeping you cool when it’s warm so don’t judge a boot by its fluffiness!
They’re as useful to Australia as rain in the outback and as uniquely antipodean as a possum in a pair of boardies.
Moreover, in the meek and mild motherland, they are as useful as umbrellas that serve hot tea (the Brella-Brew). They look great, they’re as comfy as a rocking chair with built in slippers and they’re as snug as a bug in the six inch pile of a Rolls Royce foot well.
Emu Australia boots – recommended by me, Bruce and Sheila!

Sebago are most known for their fantastic selection of quality boat shoes, but that’s not all they do as you can see from the amazing collection of new styles now available online at Shoes.co.uk. The brand has broken free of its traditional tight range of hand sewn Dockside® product to encompass a whole new area of chunky US American Preppy and Rugged Cool Work Boots. It all started last year when the brand branched out in to the ‘Brown Shoe’ area with a collection which included traditional Penny Loafer and formal shoes such as the Sussex Moccasin and the Classic Loafer.
Last year also saw the introduction of the first wave,(ha ha!) of Boat Inspired boots with Lighthouse and Stormsail taking to the shelves. Also traditional boots like Drake made their mark, formal Chelsea boots with side elastic in black leather and brown suede.
Sebago have continued the trend this season with the re inclusion of the Drake boot but also pushed the boat out (drum roll!) to include styles such as Mather, a bellows tongue, two eyelet boot in rugged waxed leather and Mather, a chukka boot with hand stitched apron and waterproof leather uppers.

Mather Chukka – £109.95 Free Delivery
Sebago is a part of the Wolverine Corporation which is the same group that owns Hush Puppies and Caterpillar and they have nicked a few idea from the latter’s Legendary Raw collection in the form of leather soled work boots like Parkman and Hamilton, using rubber out soles and oily leather for the uppers. There are still of course traditional Sebago Shoes in the range like Dockside in new earthy colours, the waxy brown is a particular favourite with its battered oily suede uppers and matching out sole and Woods, an Autumn boat shoe on a rugged lug sole unit. Take also Foresider which is similar to Endeavour but with a light cleated sole and also in the same oily brown leather that is used in the Spring versions on the lighter soles. Sebago want to be known not just for Boat Shoes, an all round footwear company with Boat Shoes, Formal and Boots to give the prospective customer an all year experience with the brand!

Sebago Caribou – £109.95 Free Delivery
Sebago are looking to branch out even further in the coming months. There is a strong trend at the moment for boat shoes and loafers so what better brand can there be to capitalise on the trend?. The two looks go hand in hand just as it did in 1979/80 when Ska music was raging, Madness and The Specials were in the charts with their unique version of revved up reggae dominated the music of the time. Back then the classic penny loafer was all the rage and even broke through to become a major style for women who went mad for the cherry red or bordo version. We see that tend coming back strongly and we see and original brand such as Sebago doing it properly!
If you want real quality versions of this top trending look then Sebago is the brand to choose. They may not be the cheapest but when you look at the quality of the shoes and the boots that you get then you will see that they have been made properly, no compromise, using the best materials from rugged waxed leather uppers, top quality insoles and real rubber and leather outsoles.
If you would like to buy a pair of Sebago shoes then follow the links over to Shoes.co.uk where you can get free delivery and free returns on all styles!

I was wandering around the Trafford centre yesterday noticing the proliferation of boat shoes in the shops for Women. This has been a long time coming! Last year was a boom year for Men’s Boat Shoes and sales rocketed with huge ranges from Sebago, Rockport , Sperry, Chatham and Timberland went on display.
This year the sales of Men’s Boat Shoes hasn’t abated and the stars of last year, the Navy Dockside shoes and Brown Oiled Leather Spinnaker and Sloop have continued to outperform. In every shop, in every mall there is a great selection of Men’s Deck Shoes from all the great brands, so what of Women’s?
It started in earnet about six months ago with pumps with fringes and tassles with a nautical feel, white or gum soles, light slip on shoes which worked perfectly with the trend in rolled up chinos. Now its getting serious with full on Boat Shoes turning up in the likes of Office and online with us at Shoes.co.uk. We see the trend gathering momentum through the final blows of Summer, dying out for the winter as boots take over then sprinting back in to life for early Spring. Essentially becoming a transitional fashion. Whether it makes its way in to high summer next year is anyones guess, so why not take advantage now while the sun is still beating down and couple those chino shorts in biscuit, tan and navy with a smart pair of nautical footwear from the best brands out there?!
Sebago Shoes have a wonderful range of women’s boat shoes that are only set to increase in number as the season progresses, take a look at this wonderful boat shoe from ther current collection!
Sebago Shoes – Womens Spinnaker £94.95
Spinnaker by Sebago Shoes is a lovely light weight boat shoe made from super soft nubuck with a non marking rubber outsole and a 360° lacing system which means that the leather lace goes all way round the shoe, creating the laces, then looping back round the back of the shoe to the outside. Yes! relacing kits are available!
Chatham Shoes have been growing in popularity and with the shortage of genuine fashion boat shoes around expect a surge in demand for these classics from their current range!

Chatham Shoes – Deck Lady Shoes G2 £74.95
The G2 by Chatham is a classic two eyelet boat shoe from this UK brand, featurin a natural tanned leather upper and traditional gum coloured sole which is stitched through as a true moccasin should be with leather lacing, a leather sock and comfort padding underneath.
Sp keep an eye on this growing trend, its massive on Men’s and is getting stronger and stronger on Womens. Our ranges will explode in Boat Shoe colour for the Spring believe me, I gave seen some amaxing new colours from the Spring Summer Sebago range that we will have from Feb, but we have to get through winter first!

When we first started selling Lelli Kelly Shoes oin 2008 there were no school shoe ranges, just the beaded canvas shoes that we all know and love. This was followed in 2009 with a small range of heeled party shoes on a two inch heel which sold very well but just in black patent. It took until back to school 2009 for the company to release the fiirst of what one would consider to be proper school shoes with the school cross dolly. This shoe had zig zag straps where the shoe has an instep bar that secures the foot by looping diagonally across the top of throat.
This school shoe sold really well and in the Autumn of 2010 the shoe was rereleased but with a much wider offer to sit alongside it. This was also after the lauch of the new ‘Mille Volti’ strap shoes which came with interchangeable straps that could be taken of and swapped over at will. These came out just in party form first but were quicky followed by the school shoe version the School Strap Dolly in August of that year.

Lelli Kelly Jennifer School Shoes £49.95 Free Delivery!
This strap school shoe was a huge success and the shoes sold out very quickly. Lelli Kelly Shoes are back again this year with their updated version of that iconic shoes The Jennifer School Dolly whioch comes in black patent and black smooth leather. The shoe has a leather lining and a comfort leather covered sock as well and retails for £49.95 in sizes 10-2 ½.
Each pair comes with a small chiffon back in the box that contains the extra straps, so there is a pair of self stitched straps all in blac, one with a small bow and finally one with glitter sparkly flowers attached. There is also a small toy in every box which this year features a compact with a glitter doggie on the front and Lelli Kelly Make up inside.
The shoes are featured on the new Lelli Kelly TV advert which hit the screens in the last week on July and will run for the whole of the back to school period.
Lelli Kelly School shoes are avaialble to buy from Shoes.co.uk with free delivery and for a limited time, free returns as well.
